What is WRONG with our Society?!

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

I heard on the radio today several stories about employees who were fired for trying to protect customers or products at their business (McDonalds and Home Depot).  In the McDonald’s case, the young hero saved a woman who was physically assaulted by a customer.  He escorted the man out and was shot.  McScum has refused to pay any of his medical bills and fired him too.  Not much more to say…

Good Intentions? Bad Motives? Bad Execution?

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

You be the judge.  In some cases, the answer is pretty obvious.  Check out the headlines and RESPONSES section below:

1) Inept local agencies left void filled by crusading cop: inquiry

CORNWALL– The mishandling of sexual abuse allegations by “inept” officials in eastern Ontario sent victims flocking to a crusading police constable determined to unearth a pedophile ring and a conspiracy to cover it up, a public inquiry heard today. Although not the focus of the Cornwall inquiry, the role of former city police officer Perry Dunlop was front and centre as the commission began hearing final submissions after three years of testimony and $40 million spent so far. While some argued Dunlop “lost his way” while conducting his off-hours investigation in the early 1990s, others told the inquiry he “did the right thing” and is deserving of an apology.

2) City’s fraud, waste hotline keeps ringing

3) Jewish groups slam boycott aimed at Israeli universities — CUPE delegates back controversial motion

4) Busting through bafflegab on mental health woes

5) Glitch bares Ryerson students’ information

The personal information of almost 600 Ryerson University students – including their social insurance numbers and addresses – were exposed for more than a month by a glitch in software used by students to register for courses.

6) Whitby teacher charged with sex assault — Police discover woman and boy, 14, in car in rural Clarington
A 34-year-old female elementary school teacher was found “engaging in an unlawful sexual act” with a 14-year-old boy in a parked car in rural Clarington on Friday night, Durham police said yesterday.

Slumming at the Oscars

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

Okay, I’ll say it.  Slumdog Millionaire’s sweep at this year’s Oscars is a reflection of all that’s wrong with Hollywood.  Don’t get me wrong: I love most of Danny Boyle’s (the director) work.  And the movie wasn’t that bad: it was a charming little fantasy film.  But Oscar sweeper?  Puh-leaze….

Most important, I need to stress that I have never watched the Oscars, aside from when David Letterman hosted it. Yes, the one time I chose to watch–I was a huge Letterman fan–it apparently had to be one of the worst hosting jobs…I’ve never made that mistake again, which explains why I didn’t watch even when Jon Stewart hosted.  Now, if Stephen Colbert hosts it, I might watch. The worst I’ve done is to tune in for an announcement here or there, and I’ve watched “interesting” segments re-broadcast.  But the last time I ever cared was in 1978, when I was a huge Star Wars freak. Even then I didn’t even watch; I just waited for the results the next day…

So this is not a huge rant or anything, but I thought it was fitting to point out the shmaltzy choices made by this shmaltzy gang of fantasy people living in a shmaltzy, fantasy world.  The fact that so many truly inspiring performances never even get nominated (I’ll list a few when I’m not half asleep/drugged out on Neo Citrin) proves how insipid and meaningless the Oscars are.  Now I’m off to bed, appreciating the irony of taking time to write about something that does not deserve any of my brain power… ;)

Who DIDN’T See This Coming??

Sunday, February 22nd, 2009

The headlines say it all…Well, not all, since you need to read the RESPONSES to see just how much ordinary citizens can expect to be screwed by the “powers that be.”

Sunrise blast victims left high and dry (Royson James)
Six months after the horrific propane explosion blasted residents out of bed, damaged and destroyed their homes and ruined the blissful enjoyment of their neighbourhood, institutional indifference has set in around the devastated Downsview enclave of modest homes. Residents such as Jeff Green battle insurance companies – going to the media, even – to get them to settle claims expeditiously and fairly.

Trust Me, it’s Only Going to Get Worse!

Sunday, February 22nd, 2009

The Japanese have warned their citizens about this for years, as have the Europeans.  Only recently did we start admitting this problem, but we still don’t know just how badly we’re messing up our bodies.  And as anyone who has read this blog knows (such as this post), we can never trust a product just because the maker and their unethical hired-gun scientists claim it’s safe.  The RESPONSES section contains the rest of the story, as well as another story on one more example of an approved medication turning out to be lethal.  The two headlines in question are:

Bisphenol A can build up in babies, scientists warn

and

Drug maker suspends sale of psoriasis drug

Speaking of  the corrupt medical/health/research field, the third story is just one of thousands of examples of doctors fraudulently over-billing OHIP.  Yet, a few years ago the Star revealed that fewer than 5% of any complaints against doctors ever get investigated!

Fuck the Barbarians and Fuck Anyone who Doesn’t Condemn Them!

Saturday, February 21st, 2009

Lily sent me a story as an update to a post I had written three months ago on the savagery that still exists in the minds of many Muslims.  Yes, every country has its share of sick, savage fucks who should be put to death to spare us all from their monstrous crimes.  But only certain countries, religions, and/or sects promote or tacitly accept these barbaric practices en masse, whereas in civilized countries, we acknowledge and decry these horrific acts as isolated incidents to be prevented at all costs.

And please don’t try to downplay such savagery by claiming that certain countries/religions/sects don’t actually encourage it, or that those very same countries are at least punishing people who commit these crimes.  Yes, in some cases, the animals are punished.  But far too many go unpunished, and far too many “people” believe that they are not actually committing a crime.  We are no longer in the stone ages.  Climb out from under those rocks!

In any event, if you check out the RESPONSES below, you’ll see the story that accompanies the picture and headline.  Call me a barbarian, but I believe the punishment certainly fits the crime.  And it’s too bad that there are no compassionate people in that country who would pay to help this woman out.

I’m going to run out of trophies…

Friday, February 20th, 2009

for this Asshole of the Year Competition.  Here are the latest nominees.  The first ones are just pure evil and deserve to be tortured before put to death.  Of course, we’ll give them a few months in jail and probation, here in Canaduh.  If they get bail, I’m emigrating…

The next pair of nominees are part of the reason many people are anti-religion.  But they will profess their innocence, while cognitive dissonance and ignorance will lead their followers to believe every lie that oozes out of their scumholes.

The third set of nominees are barbarians.  Put them in a ring and let them all fight to the death.  The ring leaders have already been released, since this IS the most idiotic “compassionate” country in the world.

The rest of each story is contained in the RESPONSES section below.

Not to be TOO dickish, but…

I know there are many tragic stories during this recession/depression.  But the fact is, for many people this is a crisis of their own making.  Over the past few generations, North Americans have been deluded into believing they deserve the good things in life.  How many people have lived far beyond their means these past few/many years?  I’ve heard of too many stories of people getting a new job at GM or some other car plant recently and then buying some big house in the suburbs or country side, two giant cars, etc…You know the story….Are they stupid?

Who in the past few years would think that such a job would be safe?!  If you’re in that field, you should know the climate.  And the clear warning signs have been around these past few years.  The only ones I feel sorry for are those who’ve been at the plant for many years and could thus expect some kind of future there. Anyone else who found employment at such a job recently and decided to live beyond their means is a fool.  They should have bought a modest home or rented first, saved up their ridiculously high salaries (seriously, the kind of money some people get working on an assembly line is just plain silly!), and tentatively tested out the waters before making any large purchases.

But nooooo….Too many of these people thought that they could finally get theirs.  They could finally catch up to the Joneses…They could finally have all the things in life they deserve, even if they never did anything in life to warrant such expectations.  That’s what entitlement gets you.

To be clear, I’m not being flippant about people in crisis.   And far too many people in so many different jobs have been truly blindsided and had no reason to expect that the bottom would fall out.  This is a tragedy for many such people.

But the fact is, the type of people I first described above were foolish and delusional.  And many others were too “entitled” to think that they should consider concepts such as RESTRAINT.  Far too many people all around the world have lost sight of what is important in life.  Far too many parents have fucked up their kids.  Far too many people have bought into the delusion of mass, blind consumerism–shop till you drop, baby!  Far too many assholes think that Donald Trump is a hero.

The CEOs, politicians, bankers, etc. are to blame for much of the economic shitstorm we’re in now.  But let’s not give the hundreds of millions of “common folk” who’ve contributed to this nightmare a free ride.  Own up, people…

More Asshole of the Year Nominees

If you read the RESPONSES below, you’ll see what “democracy” and “freedom of speech” mean to the asshole councilors and mayor in Clarington.  Add them to the list of nominees, last updated in this link.

Updates on the Weird…

I just saw on TV that one young man (20) was fined for smoking in the car with a minor.  I normally would applaud police for their vigilance, since only a completely selfish moron would smoke in the car with a minor.  However, this particular minor happened to be 15 years old and was smoking herself!  On top of that, the news said she’s too young to buy smokes but is old enough to smoke.  My head hurts….

If you check the RESPONSES below, you’ll see the latest update on the Nadya Suleman story (you can see my previous post on her at the top of this link).  Thank you, CM, for providing the update and the headline: PR firm for octuplets’ mother quits over threats — Agency received about 100 graphic messages.  The story explains that Suleman’s new PR person counts the homophobic Argument for Birth Control pastor, Rick Warren, as his client.
